Officially announced during the RWBY panel of RTX at Home in 2021, later details such as artwork, character concepts, and gameplay were revealed that indicated the game would be a sidescroller action-adventure. The game’s story was written by RWBY show writers Miles Luna, Kerry Shawcross, and Eddy Rivas with RWBY’s original voice cast coming back to play their respective characters. It takes place shortly after Volume 7 when Ruby and the gang become certified Huntresses. Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are on a mission to uncover the mystery behind a new shadowy threat to their home. A development diary post by Chris Hoffman promises the game will bring the familiar characters to life and have heartfelt moments to the story which is canon to the show.

WayForward also released an overview of gameplay and more information about the story overall. Players will be able to switch between team members to use their Semblances to solve puzzles and gain the upper hand in battles. The puzzles become more difficult as players progress, so combining each member’s special abilities is crucial in tackling the obstacles the story throws at the team. These Semblances can also be upgraded. The RWBY: Arrowfell launch trailer featured the names of each RWBY team member along with their classic weapons, fighting styles, and Semblances in action. The trailer also succeeds in maintaining the goofy fun-loving charm the show is known for, hinting that the game will be like the show in more ways than one.

Players will also collect Skill Points that can be strengthened and customize the RWBY team’s attacks, such as melee, ranged, defense, and energy regeneration. The nonlinear environments of RWBY: Arrowfell will be familiar to fans of the show, with the inclusion of Atlas, Mantle, and more. Familiar characters like Penny, Winter, General Ironwood, and others will also make an appearance alongside new characters. The official release date for RWBY: Arrowfell is November 15.

Despite the fact that the RWBY series’ development company Rooster Teeth has faced controversy in recent years, the show is still loved by its fans. However, there has been criticism for the look of the graphics, with some critics comparing it to a mobile game. WayForward is a well-respected game development company, so that shows some promise and has some fans withholding their judgment until they see how the game turns out upon release.

RWBY: Arrowfell will launch on November 15 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
