Reynolds was the star of the first Deadpool movie in 2016, portraying a brash, foulmouthed mercenary with the ability to regenerate from almost anything as he seeks revenge for his torture, scarring, and mutilation at the hands of the man who gave him his powers. The movie was based on the similarly comedic Marvel Comics character of the same name and was a massive success, spawning a successful sequel and eventually leading to Deadpool 3 being Marvel Studios’ first R-rated film.

However, in what can only be described as the best prank since the Stranger Things writers’ room trolled Twitter, the two begin to address the issue and delve into the plot of the upcoming movie, only for the audio to be cut off. Their commentary is drowned out by Wham’s popular hit “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” right before they can give away any of the details, with both men still speaking and making exaggerated, animated movements along with it. As the song finally fades, the two men express their thanks to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige as if nothing happened in the interim.

This sort of stunt is typical of Reynolds, who is universally loved for the potent sense of humor that he has carried into both previous Deadpool projects as well as his recent hit Free Guy, all three of which contain spectacular use of fourth wall breaks. While the video didn’t answer any of the burning questions that fans might have, it still made for quite a laugh and is sure to be just as effective as any elaborate marketing for the upcoming project.

The reveal of Wolverine’s inclusion is a welcome dollop of icing on what was already looking to be an enjoyable treat and also makes it entirely fitting that 2017’s Logan and both Deadpool titles were released for streaming at the same time. Fans are sure to want to enjoy both hits in the leadup to the release of Deadpool 3, which is guaranteed to be just as deserving of the R-rating as the previous two. This will make for an eventful addition to the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe on release, and fans can’t wait to see it.

Deadpool 3 is set for release on the 6th of September 2024.
