Alabama coach Nick Saban and his new offensive coordinator were among those letting it loose this weekend.

On a big recruiting weekend, Saban hosted recruits and parents at his house and he and Kiffin stole the show.

Saban did the electric slide with some of the parents.

Kiffin performed Lynryd Skynryd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” on karaoke with the mother of Alabama commitment Bo Scarbrough.

“I think if you’re new there, you have to do karaoke,” Donetris Scarbrough told BamaOnline.com. “It’s kind of the theme with the new coaches. Everyone has to do a karaoke night. It was his turn and he kept on hiding. He told me, ‘I think I’ll go ahead and do it, if you sing with me.’ He told me it would make it easier and be fun. We tried to figure out what song we would do first. He said ‘come on up here and do it with me, I don’t want to do it by myself.’ “

Kiffin, fired from his head coach position at USC five games into the 2013 season, was recently named offensive coordinator at Alabama.

And he’s not too bad a singer, either.

“It made the night,” Scarbrough said of the duet. “It was the talk of the night.”

DEL RIO TO OREGON STATE

Last week Luke Del Rio announced he was leaving Alabama after a redshirt season and this weekend he signed to play with Oregon State.

Del Rio is the son of Denver Broncos defensive coordinator and former NFL linebacker Jack Del Rio.

“We are very excited that Luke has chosen to join the Oregon State Football program,” Beavers coach Mike Riley said. “He is an exceptional young man and will be a great representative of Beaver Nation on and off the field.”

Del Rio made news a year ago when he chose to walk on at Alabama instead of accepting scholarship offers from several other schools, including Oregon State, and Oklahoma State, where he was once committed.

Del Rio spent the 2013 season as a redshirt, but was considered the Crimson Tide’s No. 3 quarterback behind starter AJ McCarron and backup Blake Sims. Del Rio was expected to compete for the starting job in 2014 along with Sims, Alec Morris, Cooper Bateman and Parker McLeod. Incoming freshman David Cornwell is considered one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects as well.

Del Rio will have to sit out the 2014 season at Oregon State and will have three years of eligibility beginning in 2015.

MASON FINDS VANDY’S DC

When Derek Mason was introduced as Vanderbilt’s head coach Saturday, he said he wasn’t going to waste time putting together his staff.

On Sunday, he added the first piece — a big one — in Stanford’s David Kotulski. He will be the Commodores’ defensive coordinator, CoachingSearch.com reported.

Kotulski coached inside linebackers at Stanford the past two seasons, where he worked with Mason, who was assistant head coach/co-defensive coordinator at Stanford since 2011 before Vanderbilt hired him as head coach.

Kotulski also spent time as defensive coordinator at Lehigh, Holy Cross, Utah State, Bucknell and Saint Mary’s. He started his coaching career at Utah in 1978 as defensive line and linebackers coach.

PENN STATE ADDS ASSISTANT

Terry Smith, who coached receivers at Temple last season will coach cornerbacks on James Franklin’s staff at Penn State, CoachingSearch.com reported Sunday.

Smith played receiver at Penn State, finishing in 1991 with 108 career receptions, 1,825 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Smith coaches Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway High School for 11 seasons before joining the Temple staff in 2013.

NM STATE HIRES ASSISTANT

Larry Coyer has been hired as defensive coordinator for New Mexico State, CoachingSearch.com reported Sunday.

Coyer was an advanced scout for the Washington Redskins this season and was defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts from 2009-11.

The 70-year-old Coyer also spent time at Iowa State, East Carolina, Ohio State, Houston, UCLA and Oklahoma State, among others.

Coyer replaces David Elson, who went to Southern Illinois as secondary coach after two seasons at New Mexico State.
