Boyd, the 2012 Northeast Conference player of the year, was averaging 18.5 points and 6.1 rebounds when he was injured last December 12 in a game vs. Rice. These injuries are not the only medical hardships Boyd has had to endure during his career. He also missed the 2009-10 season because of a heart condition.
At best, Boyd will return in January, Rothstein notes. LIU has gone to the NCAA Tournament three straight seasons, and seeing Boyd return to help it make No. 4 would make for a good story.
But it also wouldn't be surprising to see Boyd just call it a career now, given the rigors of rehab, and the potential for reinjury.
