But if he can’t, then he says his backup Luke McCown proved in Charlotte that he’s up to the task.

“I don’t know my situation this week,” Brees told Cox Sports TV. “I’m day to day, Obviously I plan to and expect to start on Sunday, but if I don’t we’re in good hands with Luke.”
McCown completed 31 of 38 passes for 310 yards but no TDs and one interception in the five-point loss.
The Saints clearly would prefer Brees to be the starter if his ailing shoulder will allow it.
Fox Sports reported Sunday that although Brees doesn’t have a torn rotator cuff, weakness in his shoulder prevents him from being able to throw downfield.
Brees said Sunday that whether he can play against the Cowboys is “a matter of functionality” as it relates to the types of throws he is physically able to make.
