Just looking at the character customization in Saints Row, it’s clear players can get lost in it for hours. They are a ton of options for everything imaginable, including unique approaches like asymmetrical face design. In other words, players can create a variety of face options with how they want to design each half of it. One side could have smeared lipstick, while the other could have a huge, caved-in facial disfigurement.

From the aforementioned options down to the hair, clothing, prosthetics, skin material (players could look like a forest elf, should they so choose, or a witch, or a baby, or a chiseled Disney-like character), and more, it’s easy to get lost in these options. There are presets for players wanting something simple so they can dive right in, but someone who wants to spend hours here too doesn’t have to put off playing Saints Row at launch to do so.

Prior to this new trailer, Game Rant recently viewed a presentation where Volition, at the end, confirmed players would be able to design their Saints Row Boss sooner than launch. Details are forthcoming, but the long and short of it is that players will be able to access the character customization ahead of Saints Row’s release date and do everything they would normally do. When wasn’t specified either, but this will likely take place sometime in late summer/early August (although that is speculation at this time).

Character customization is incredibly important in video games, as many players want their characters to be just right in things like cutscenes and gameplay. In everything from The Sims to Dragon Age: Inquisition, players have spent hours designing their characters to perfection. Saints Row’s approach will allow players to prepare for just that, without having to put off loading into the game.

It’s not clear how this will work yet, but it is exciting. Saints Row already has a brand new sandbox, brand new characters, brand new factions, and a ton of other new features to explore. This is really the icing on the cake to make sure this character creator is used to its full potential, and it surely has a lot of that.

Saints Row releases August 23 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
